Le Coureur

Cardboard-hull 1/72 scale kit of the French lugger Le Coureur, 1776. 24.5"L x 18.5" H. Sails and many small bits were scratchbuilt.

Lateen Turkey

Inspired by pix of lateen-rigged fishing craft that my wife linked me to, and other such working boats in the Mediterranean, and the Indian Ocean; and racing dhows in the Persian Gulf. Mylar sails, bamboo skewers, bones from two turkeys. Some curvy bits are leftovers from a lasercut sheet of balsa from a Viking wooden-ship kit. 19" long and tall, purely by coincidence.

Another Turkey

 A small turkey means small bones, and less room for complexity. Sail theme taken from late 19th century America's Cup competitors. Mylar, skewers, and toothpicks, plus a permanent rubberband to hold the wingsail structure against the body.

Dora

Revell's 1990 1/32 scale Focke-Wulf 190 Dora, Spring 1945. On prior models I've used dry pastels to accent the basic acrylic paintjob. This is the first time using finger-applied dry pastels to color the plane. As usual, minimum decals, minimum details.

Val

WW2 Japanese Navy Aichi D3A 'Val.' Last picture with a recently-done Dauntless. Both 1/48 Hasegawa kits. I liked the graphic impact of the Val decals so much I decided to not cut them along the control-surface hinges. Green top surfaces done with assorted shades of craftstore acrylics. Got the mildly-weathered look I wanted without using dry pastels.

Etrich Truthahn

Latest turkey bone exercise. Additional bits include assorted disposable wooden utensils, and pulltabs from juice boxes. Wingspan a bit over 38". Some visual themes taken from frigate birds, and a now-ancient wing-warping monoplane from 1910, the Etrich Taube. Due to its goggle-eyes, Janet has aptly dubbed it the "Junior Birdman" in reference to this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JizuHg_c7Ng
